In 2009-2010, we hosted lectures by author Derrick Jensen and political prankster Mike Bonanno (of the Yes Men). We also organized a climate change carnival (see 350.org), worked with the student body president to build a statewide student network against tuition hikes, and joined other UWM activists in "welcoming" Karl Rove and Ann Coulter to campus. In 2010-2011, we hosted talks by former Black Flag vocalist Henry Rollins, author Raj Patel, Frida Kahlo of the Guerilla Girls, eco-feminist Vandana Shiva, the Beehive artists collective, Charlie Todd from Improv Everywhere, and author Jessica Valenti. We also launched a campus-wide composting campaign -- all Grind coffee shops on campus are now sending their coffee grounds to the Growing Power urban farm! Lately, much of our effort has been devoted to work in solidarity with workers and other students to stop Governor Walker's attempts to hand Wisconsin over to corporations. We also recently welcomed our old friend Karl Rove back to campus (what a clown!). Drop us a line if you would like to get involved!
