The Student Association set funding levels for various segregated fee funded entities at UWM this past Sunday. While the decision on a funding level for the Women's Resource Center.

As I talked about on my radio show yesterday, the "under-represented' populations at UWM are upset that LINKS, a resource center better known by many UWM students for their couch than for their counseling, was declared ineligible. Apparently, minority students are upset that there are only four resource centers that cater to them instead of five.

Well, the ultra-liberals and minority groups have lashed out.

Late last night, and during the day today, students of the far left liberal fringe that work in University departments used their employment status and access to send e-mails through the First Year Center and Campus Ambassador programs. These emails went out to more than 2,000 students. In the email were the personal cell phone numbers of student government leaders and instructions to call these fiscally responsible emails and chastise them for their positions of efficiency, accountability, and less waste.

Also in the email, and on a 'Save our wasteful, unneeded resource centers' Facebook group, were the email addresses of many SA senators. Snippets from some of those emails are at the bottom of this post.

SA officials have contacted Associate Vice Chancellor Ruth Williams, who oversees the First Year Center and Campus Ambassador programs to demand that these students' jobs be terminated for breach of trust and improper use of University and State resources for political purposes. Williams has promised to investigate.

Two students who approve of these antics, and may very well be part of it, are coincidentally Director of Inclusion Nicole Morales and Assistant Director of Inclusion Chris Harroun. Both work for the Student Association executive branch. Morales stated today that she's not opposed to these antics.

Well, as the Inclusion department, the job of these two is to ensure that students feel included at UWM. So, I encourage you to call/email Morales (847-767-7417, moralesn@uwm.edu) and Harroun (262-853-5219, charroun@uwm.edu) and ask them why fiscally responsible conservative students aren't being made to feel welcomed at UWM by minorities and the psycho liberal fringe.

Some e-mail snippets:
(My comments in red)

" It is with great anger and frustration that I am writing to you again within the year to voice my opposition to the bigoted move to cut funding for the Women's Resource Center, the LGBT Center, and LINKS. Oh...fiscal responsibility is bigoted now? Name-calling in the first sentence...way to make your voice mean something.

" I find this move, twice now within a year, to cut funding for these centers a full blown bigoted, sexist, racist, and offensive move on the student senate's behalf. I am ashamed to be from a university that allows such funding cuts to happen. And I am utterly ashamed of all of you." Different = wrong? Views that don't jive with your own are sexist, racist and offensive? What if I think it's offensive that we have to pay for FIVE RESOURCE CENTERS THAT DO THAT SAME THING! Adios, LINKS!

- Melody Hoffman
Hoffman made this presentation: "Sex with Her Hands: Female-produced Internet Pornography and DIY Culture," at the annual Console-ing Passions International Conference in Milwaukee in May of 2006...no wonder she's opposed!

"Let me ask you: is basketball a want or a need? Will it help you in a time of need? I don’t think so. Why don’t we cut funding for all sports then? School spirit and athletics raise the stature of UWM and make it more recognizable. Five resource centers doing the same thing is nothing but a blatant waste of money, and a sad display of inefficiency and duplicated services.

"If you want to represent an all heterosexual white male school, UWM is not the place for you." Just because these centers are drastically over-funded and their services duplicated all around campus doesn't mean we're anti-minority, anti-gay, or anti-women.

- Laura Kendellen

"The Grind is a want and not a need." No crap. The Grind is a private entity...it funds itself...it doesn't suck money out of students' pockets like these resource centers. In fact, the 8th Note Coffee House used to be funded by segregated fees too, but IT'S NOT A NEED EITHER so it was cut!
- Meyer Lindsay Manske

"I am sure that you did not mean for this decision to be sexist, racist, classist, and heterosexist, but your intentions are irrelevant. Groups that do not have your privilege will suffer and you will be responsible when rape survivors no longer have a place to heal, first generation students are unable to receive mentoring, and there is no longer a safe space on campus for members of the queer community." Again, with the name-calling and 'everyone that doesn't think my way is racist, sexist, and homophobic' mentality. According to this, when rape survivors can't go to the WRC for counseling, and have to go to a real rape counseling service, that's apparently a bad thing. When first generation students have to go to the First Year Center instead of LINKS, that's apparently a bad thing. When queer students have network on their own and talk to a real counselor, apparently that's a bad thing.

"Students were personally invited to the December 9 meeting only to be met by intimidation: a gang of three appointed senators and a man with a gun(A UWM POLICE OFFICER). While I respect the desire to avoid interruptions to SA business, I cannot imagine why student input (even silent expression) would necessitate the threat of lethal force." Ok. The cop was never going to shoot anyone! What kind of idiot would think that, honestly? The officer was there to keep order. The only way Katie Jesse would've gotten shot is if she refused to leave, became violent, and posed a life safety threat to the officer, or towards others. Honestly, give me a break.

"
If you do not, then perhaps Santa will bring you each a brown shirt. The acronym "S.A." has historical signifance. It was once used by an organization that oppressed women, discouraged racial diversity, criminalized alternative lifestyles, and used violence to intimidate the community. They were also called "brown shirts," and they were Hitler's first militia." So now being fiscally responsible is being part of Hitler's first militia?

"I have witnessed many students, both traditional and non-traditional, entering the university where institutional racism, sexism and homophobia are rampant, but being able to navigate through their university years with these Centers as anchors. These Centers are a human right and should be viewed as such." So apparently, the University is hardcore bigoted and ultra-conservative? What school did this guy go to? Certainly, he's out of touch with the truth at UWM. And these centers are a human right? Sorry, I missed that chapter of the Constitution. Or maybe it's listed in the part about inalienable rights? Doubt it.

- Bryan G. Pfeifer
An alumnus! Nobody cares what you think! Maybe if these centers are so important you can chip in some of your pay to fund them since you're in the professional world. That way students won't have to be financially raped for this stuff!

Among the emails not referenced above, two emails from Professors or other University staff. Keep in mind that the students who started this circulated their miss information with University resources. How come Scott Jensen gets persecuted for using state resources for political purposes, but it's okay for University staff?

Be sure to tune into my weekly radio show Tuesday afternoons at 4:30 CST.

That's all for now.
